BASIS Tucson is the flagship BASIS school, with the distinction of being the original BASIS school founded in 1998. The curriculum and methodology are those on which all other BASIS schools are based. Recent expansion allows BASIS Tucson to serve grades K-6, with a course of study that is the hallmark of a BASIS education. Students matriculate to BASIS Tucson North, or BASIS Oro Valley for 7th through 12th Grades.
In our K-4 program, students are not just taught content, but also the very necessary skills of organization, time management, and study habits. The curriculum includes a wide array of classes ranging from English and Math/Science to Mandarin, Physical Education (both traditional and Kenpo) Music, Drama, and Art. Additionally, BASIS Tucson is proud to offer our signature Connections courses for grades 1 - 4. There are two different kinds of Connection courses. ʺAll Connectionsʺ focuses on the knowledge students acquire in their other classes and brings it all together. Students are presented scenarios in which they work in small groups to solve problems, drawing on the entirety of their learning. ʺFine Arts Connectionsʺ does the same, but focuses on their Fine Arts knowledge, acquired in Music, Drama, and Art.
The 5th and 6th Grade curriculum is the foundation that makes possible the academic achievements of the upper school. 5th graders take Latin, General Science, Physical Geography, Math, Classics, English PE, Art, and Music. 6th graders study Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Math, English, United States History, and Latin. 6th Graders also choose an elective. Current electives include Art, Band, Drama, Guitars, and Creative Writing.

MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL:
There simply is nothing like a BASIS Tucson classroom in action.
The educational environment at BASIS Tucson is one of true scholarship. Students learn logic and rhetoric so that they can analyze problems and present solutions. They learn to analyze texts, solve algebraic expressions, and identify chemical compositions. Students can challenge themselves in such classes as Mandarin, Creative Writing, Theater, and Kenpo. Discussions in the hallways and at lunch are centered on intellectual topics, not because of any policy or requirement, but because the students are truly interested and have a passion for learning, dialogue, and the sharing of knowledge.
We invite you and your child to come visit us, and see for yourself what makes BASIS Tucson the best choice for education in Southern Arizona.
